Jamie Carr is a proud Wiradjuri man with strong cultural bloodlines and community connections to both Wellington and Redfern. He is a father of six children and grandfather of one.Jamie brings powerful lived expertise shaped by more than 35 years navigating systems, addiction and involvement with the criminal legal system, during which he experienced homelessness, poor mental health and the many barriers experienced by people leaving custody particularly those with extensive trauma. Having now spent more than two years living in the community and working on his recovery, Jamie has transformed his lived experience into a passion and platform for leadership, advocacy and systems change.

Jamie is the Principal Consultant of Real Indigenous Consultancy (RIC), through RIC Jamie works alongside and partners with government, community organisations and service providers to improve responses and outcomes for all justice-involved and justice-impacted people, families and communities. Drawing on his lived expertise, cultural knowledge and frontline experience across multiple human service systems, Jamie helps organisations and stakeholders to better understand the realities of trauma, systemic racism, disadvantage, reintegration, recovery, healing and the barriers that continue long after release from custody.

Jamie is a passionate advocate for community-led, healing-centred approaches that move beyond crisis responses to create lasting change. His work challenges assumptions, fosters meaningful conversations and provides practical insights into what genuinely supports people to rebuild their lives and reduce contact with the criminal legal system.Jamie believes that those closest to the challenges are often closest to the solutions. His work demonstrates the value of lived expertise in shaping policy/programs, system responses, informing practice and building stronger, safer people, families and communities.
