Apryl Day
Chief Executive Officer & Founder
Dhadjowa Foundation
Apryl Day is a proud Yorta Yorta, Wemba Wemba and Barapa Barapa woman, justice reform leader, and award-winning creative director. She is the Founding Executive Officer of the Dhadjowa Foundation, supporting families across Australia whose loved ones have died in custody, and was instrumental in Victoria’s historic decriminalisation of public drunkenness.
Her advocacy bridges movement building, policy reform, and strategic systems change, combining grassroots organising with national leadership. Apryl serves on the board of the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service and is widely recognised for advancing Aboriginal-led justice solutions.
Alongside her family, she has received the Voltaire Human Rights Award, the Australian Lawyers Alliance Civil Justice Award, and the Tim McCoy Human Rights Award, and was personally named a Marie Claire Women of the Year in 2020. As a multidisciplinary creative, she uses storytelling, film, and cultural memory as tools for healing and resistance, and speaks nationally and internationally on Indigenous leadership, justice reform, and systems change.
